Casting Crown

Pitons Cup heroine Casting Crown headlines a list of five Saint Lucia based horses nominated for the famed Barbados Gold Cup race day on 7th March 2020. The five-year-old mare was outstanding when making her Caribbean debut, coming from just off the pace in the DSH Caribbean Star Limited Pitons Cup (1800m) with a sustained burst of speed around the home corner to burst clear and salute by just under two lengths.

Casting Crowns is one of three nominees for the time honoured G1 USD100,000 Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup (1800m) with fellow Pitons Cup placegetters Colonel’s Pride and Run Bayou also listed. The Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup has long been a feature event across the Caribbean and has a record of drawing interest across the region as well as North America. The list of entries is just as deep in 2020 with 17 nominees from five different regions.

Senior Guitar

Senor Guitar, a dominant winner of the USD40,000 UK Tote Winston Trim Memorial Trophy (1400m), is one of two Saint Lucian nominees for the G1 Sandy Lane Spa Sprint Stakes and Trophy (1400m) alongside the near white speedball, Lightning Lewis. The contest has drawn 18 nominees.

All five runners are likely to use the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club’s 16th February 2020 race day as a final hitout before connections decide whether or not to compete in Barbados.
